Meadowlands Estate Limited ("MEL") has made a planning application to the Vale of Glamorgan Council to build 9 low-energy/energy-free homes for LOCAL people.
MEL has been working on this scheme for some years, and the beginnings of this development came in 2017 when during discussions with local people it emerged that there was a desperate need for low-cost housing for local people.
It came to light that over recent years homes that were originally designated, for example, for farm workers had been turned into private homes and sold off. There are a number of sons and daughters of farm workers in the locality who have nowhere to live and have to relocate to Cardiff and exit their parents' farms or smallholdings, etc.
It also came to light that there is no low-cost accommodation for people who have retired and these, too, either have to remain in homes that are too big for them as they cannot downsize or they have to move away.
